The Real Madrid Foundation (RMF) will open a soccer school in Sidoarjo,
East Java, and in six other cities in Indonesia.
Rosa Gemenez Rosa, RMF’s director of the International Project
Corporation, said that Sidoarjo was selected because it had great potential in
sport development, especially soccer.
“The first priorities are children from families affected by natural
disasters and impoverished families,” she said Tuesday in Sidoarjo as quoted by
Kompas.com.
Sidoarjo deputy regent Hadi Sutjipto said that he welcomed the cooperation
because it could boost Sidoarjo’s image and people, especially low-income
families.
“Children from poor families can be scouted for soccer, leading to
better opportunities,” he said.
He said that the Sidoarjo local government would disseminate the
program to all students in Sidoarjo, but he did not as yet know the recruitment
procedure.
